Little paintings: Catbird and Red-bellied Woodpeckers

Sunday, June 10th, 2012

A couple more little paintings from April.

Catbird.

Red-bellied Woodpeckers, April 14th. Back at this time they were working together to feed little ones in the nest. So sweet! I have photos of them too…

During that same week, the Pileated Woodpeckers were building their nest in Red-headed Woodpecker’s old hole. They were working very hard to renovate it, making it much much larger!

And the Downy Woodpecker was up and about too…

The Great Crested Flycatcher’s were also there, putting up some fights against the Red-bellied Woodpecker’s. All the cavity dwellers fighting over territory. I remember thinking of all the little paintings I could have done! But I only got around to that one.

Since then I’ve moved and no longer get to watch these birds, I do miss them!

North Carolina Feeder Birds

Thursday, May 17th, 2012

Here are some photos I took during my week in North Carolina of the backyard birds.

Lovey-dovey Doves mating.

Brown-headed Cowbird. A couple frequented the feeder and this male would go to the top of tree and do his mating call and poof out all his feathers.

House Finch.

Goldfinches galore! At one point there were 10 at the same time.

Red-bellied Woodpecker.

Eastern Bluebird. There were two pairs feeding babies in nest boxes.

Besides the birds I photographed, I also saw Carolina Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Wren, White-breasted Nuthatch, American Robin, Chipping Sparrow, Blue Jay, Northern Cardinal, Mockingbird, Indigo Bunting, Brown-headed Nuthatch, and Yellow-rumped Warbler.

Box Turtle

Bird watching this morning.

Friday, October 7th, 2011

Took a walk this morning and did some bird watching. All the usual suspects were out, as well as an Eagle, two pairs of Eastern Bluebirds, and lots of little Warblers.
