Friday, May 3rd, 2013

Oh my, I have been so busy and things have just calmed down a bit so now I will be playing catch up and posting a lot. I have so many things to share.

First off, I am currently showing my paintings at Dandelion Communitea in Orlando (Mills 50).

The show is all my Bird Nest pieces. 13 pieces in all. These are some of my new pieces for the show…

Blue Jay, Nest No. 33:

Barn Swallow, Nest No. 34:

If you are in the area, please check it out through the month of May! Makes a perfect Mother’s Day gift too…hint, hint! Here are a couple  photos from inside Dandelion.

Nest No. 32: American Robin

Sunday, March 17th, 2013

Nest No. 32 is an American Robin. For the nest I used flowers I pressed while I was in North Carolina last fall. It was so exciting to open my flower press and see all these lovelies inside!

Nest No. 31: Mockingbird

Saturday, March 9th, 2013

Nest No. 31 is a Mockingbird. This was a request from my last craft show. Pastel for Spring!

The Mockingbird is one of the few birds I see every single day without fail. They are incredibly fond of the old orange groves on my road.

p.s. The print the is in the shop!

Nest No. 30: Blue Gray Gnatcatcher

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

Nest No. 30 is a Blue Gray Gnatcatcher.

The Blue Gray Gnatcatcher is a tiny little bird, only about 4″ in length. Several times I have been asked if they are baby birds… no, just super tiny! They are common around here, busily chatting and feeding at the tops of the trees.

Bird Nest No. 29: Florida Scrub-Jay

Saturday, December 1st, 2012

I haven’t posted in a while but not for lack of things to post! Just busy! I promise this week I am going to post it all… starting with this- My latest bird nest! It is a pair of Florida Scrub-Jay’s.

I did this painting a couple months ago and forgot to post it! I just remembered when I had a lovely encounter with some Scrub-Jay’s this week at a place called Lyonia Preserve.

Florida Scrub-Jay’s are very friendly birds. At Lyonia they have no fear of people and will even land on you. One landed on my head, and I gotta say it is kind of terrifying to have birds flying at your face!! But very cool, there are no other birds like them. They earn extra points for being family birds that work together to protect each other and raise their young.

Bird Nest No. 28: American Goldfinches

Friday, November 2nd, 2012

Here is Bird Nest No. 28, which is a pair of American Goldfinch with 3 almost-grown chicks in the nest. Happy little family!

Old book pages and postage stamps decorate the nest, surrounded by vintage style velvet leaves.

Also, my Etsy shop has been updated to include the Penguins Field Guide and Bird Nests no. 25, 26, and 27.

Bird Nest No. 27: Ruby-throated Hummingbird

Tuesday, October 9th, 2012

Bird Nest painting No. 27 is a Ruby-throated Hummingbird. This is a female so she doesn’t have the ruby throat though.

I used beads, tissue paper, lace, and an old postage stamp in this one.

I am planning on doing some more hummingbird nests in the future- definitely with the chicks!

Bird Nest No. 26: Golden-crowned Kinglet

Saturday, October 6th, 2012

Bird Nest painting No. 26 is a Golden-crowned Kinglet.

This one has pressed flowers and leaves in the nest. I love the pressed flowers, they are so delicate. Here is a closer look at them…

Bird Nest No. 25, Lady Cardinal.

Friday, September 21st, 2012

My favorite thing about doing craft shows is hearing feedback from people and finding out what they are really looking for and would like to see. I write down every suggestion! One request I’ve had a lot of is for the female Northern Cardinal. People seem to think she is under appreciated and just as beautiful as the male- and I have to agree!

So I present my latest painting, Bird Nest No. 25, a female Northern Cardinal-
