Green Heron’s at Merritt Island

My favorite thing about Merritt Island right now is the Green Heron’s nesting in the mangroves. There are also Boat-tailed Grackle’s with chicks in the nest, and a pair of Eastern Kingbird’s building a nest last time I was there.

At this point you can see all ages of Green Heron’s there. Some are still sitting on the nest, others have little fuzzy heads poking out, while various sizes of chicks perch on branches.

just found your blog via the blue eyed night owl. i love it, you are so lucky to live in a place with so many birds! florida and the swamps of the everglades and the south in general in the usa has been on my bird list for some time! now i live in Barcelona but i miss the birds of my home country South Africa so much, here the european birds are very skittish and hard to see! still i have seen interesting new birds like the eurasian jay, magpies, wood pigeons, and monk parrots. your field guides are lovely!

Of course I am a bit jealous because I want to see all those birds and I’ve never been outside the US! But I will admit, from the other places around the US I have been Florida is the best for birds and also a really beautiful state with the beach and the swamps and so on… Thank you for your comment. I hope to one day have time to also do some field guides for Europe.
